QUICK STATS

Proof of Work (POW)

Bittrex DGB/BTC $2,616,350 47.2%
Poloniex DGB/BTC $1,536,170 17.59%
Upbit DGB/BTC $647,339 10.56%

DGB is focused on building a state-of-the-art and sophisticated blockchain technology for security applications. As cyber threats continue to increase around the world, it wants to do that on a big scale and have DGB transactions used globally.

DigiByte uses five individual mining algorithms that are equally weighted. Each algorithm has its own difficulty adjustment that is weighted against the other algorithms in a dynamic process known as MultiShield.

MultiShield is the advanced version of the original DigiShield (asymmetric difficulty adjustment now widely implemented in many other blockchains). DigiByte pioneered both MultiShield and DigiShield.

DGB blockchain is for everybody who wants to send money, documents, messages, videos, music, photos and IOT data to another person or legal entity with a high level of encryption and identity verification, immutability and added authentication features. That excludes markets with a main focus on privacy and anonymity as DGB is public ledger.

BACKGROUND

Whitepaper Summary
DGB has no whitepaper because “We want to be known as doers. Not whitepaper pumpers. It is much better to under promise & over deliver.”

Their web page and communication channels were taken as a substitute for a whitepaper according to a statement from DGB. In that sense, their web page is extremely well-organised with a wealth of information. Of course, not everything they say can be verified, but that is also the case with most recent whitepapers.

Problem Solved
BTC has 4-7 transactions per second (TPS) while DGB already has more, 560 TPS with planned 2000 TPS by 2020 (for comparison, VISA credit cards system currently has cca 2000 TPS) making it more scalable.

It also has 15 second block time (BTC has 10 minute block time), 5 mining algorithms (BTC has 1) and 190,000 nodes (BTC has 7,400), making it faster, more secure and more decentralized than BTC.

Competitive Edge
In short, it is better than BTC in every sense, faster than LTC and more feature rich than VTC.
Development Roadmap
There is no longer a roadmap posted and as is the case in my cryptocurrencies today, DigiByte is working to grow more organically and not be tied to a static roadmap.

INITIAL COIN OFFERING (ICO)

DGB started without an ICO and on a pure POW mechanism.

DigiByte (DGB) was officially launched on 10 January 2014 by entrepreneur and programmer Jared Tate. His goal was to develop a faster and more secure cryptocurrency. The main goal of this project was to create a cryptocurrency that could reach a more decentralized community than Bitcoin.

DGB started without ICO and on pure POW mechanism. That means that anybody can mine DGB and get it that way. Supply will be limited to 21 Billion DigiBytes over 21 years (2014 – 2035). To ensure complete decentralisation of DGB distribution.

Block Reward Reduction: 1% Monthly.
